Don’t Fuel the Fire Know The Zones

January 24, 2025

With the recent wildfires in California, Cal Fire has been identifying designated fire zones in order to manage and mitigate the risk of wildfires. These zones play a crucial role in protecting both people and property from the devastating effects of fires. Depending on the location and environmental conditions, fire zones vary in risk levels and are essential for developing fire prevention strategies and emergency response plans.

Understanding fire zones and their classification is vital in preventing, managing, and responding to wildfires. By recognizing fire zone risks and implementing appropriate safety measures, we can mitigate the threat of fires and protect lives, property, and the environment.

Four Seasons is here to partner with you to help identify fire safety zones around your property. We can work with you to ensure proper brush and tree clearance is maintained for all structures, so you can rest assured that your community is protected during this high-risk fire season.

Zone 0

This 5-foot zone surrounding your building is the most important space to keep clear of trees and brush. Keeping this area clear prevents embers from igniting materials that can spread the fire to your building. Remove all dead/dying plants, make sure all tree branches are 10 feet from the building, and use hardscape in this area.

Zone 1

This area includes the 30 feet surrounding your building. This area needs to be clean and green—meaning that brush should be removed and space is maintained between trees. Regular removal of brush and trimming of trees is critical to maintain this barrier for your buildings.

Zone 2

This zone is what fuels the fire, if not properly maintained, and it includes 100 feet around your building. It is extremely important to make this space defensible from the fuel, so brush must be regularly removed, including any hillsides leading up to the buildings.
